Harlequins can confirm today, Monday 31st October, that fly-half Tim Swiel has committed his future to the London club.

The news comes as Premiership Rugby confirmed that The Stoop will be the host venue for the Anglo-Welsh final; the tournament of which kicks off in earnest this weekend.

Joining Harlequins in 2014 on loan from the Sharks, Swiel made his debut in what was then the LV= Cup. Making ten appearances during his four-month loan spell, he returned to the Sharks following impressive performances against Leinster Rugby, at the Aviva Stadium, and Northampton Saints, during Big Game 7 at Twickenham Stadium.

Returning to Harlequins on a full-time contract in the summer of 2015, the 23 year-old has since made 25 appearances, scoring 131 points.

Confirming the news John Kingston, Harlequins Director of Rugby, said: “Tim has really kicked on at the start of this season and has taken the opportunities presented with both hands.

“He has displayed a strong desire to be part of the group with his recent performances and I’m really pleased that I have managed to significantly extend his time at Harlequins.”

Swiel added: “I am delighted to be extending my time with Harlequins. I have felt so at home here; the supporters are amazing and I know that Harlequins is the best place for me to be in terms of my continued development.

“I’m also excited by the arrival of Demetri Catrakilis next season. We know each other well from our time in South Africa and the competition will only make us better players.”

The Anglo-Welsh cup final showcases tomorrow’s heroes today as old rivalries are renewed. It will be the first time that the tournament’s showpiece event will take place at The Stoop as the stars of the future gain valuable game time and begin their progression for higher senior team and international honours.
