‘Tigers have worked to make the semi-finals’ says Luke Hamilton

Leicester Tigers have left no stone unturned as they prepare for their Aviva Premiership Rugby semi-final clash against Wasps, according to Luke Hamilton.

The 25-year-old Welshman joined Leicester from French outfit Agen Rugby last season and has made 25 appearances this campaign, featuring as a No.8 and as a blindside flanker.

The Tigers face a stern test this weekend as they travel to the Ricoh Arena to face a Wasps side who finished top of the league table.

It has been two weeks since Leicester beat Worcester Warriors 28-23 on the final day of the season to secure their place in the semi-finals and Hamilton revealed his side have done everything they can to prepare for the Wasps showdown.

“We have had a long time to prepare for this game and we have been training hard over the last two weeks,” he said.

“We have been working on all parts of our game. Now we are setting-up our side to face Wasps and working on how to beat them and make it through to the final.”

This is the first time Hamilton will have a taste of the final four experience but the Tigers are in very familiar territory, qualifying for the semi-finals for the 13th consecutive time.

I am really looking forward to the match, it should be a great contest and hopefully one we can come out on top of,” the former Agen man said.

“It is a massive achievement to make the semi-finals 13 years in a row, we hope we can go all the way this time.

“I don’t think the lads need any more motivation than what they have already got – they are very determined to win this match.”

Following their win over Worcester, assistant coach Geordan Murphy said his side’s tackling had to improve and Hamilton conceded the squad must do more defensively if they are to overcome Wasps.

The Welshman added: “Our tackling has not been good enough in recent weeks and that is one area that we have been working hard on.

“The defence is a massive part of our game and will be crucial against Wasps.

“They are a very good side who can score at any moment – we will have to be at our best to beat them.”

Hamilton’s game has gone from strength to strength as the season has progressed having adapted quickly to the huge expectations of anybody who pulls on a Tigers jersey.

And the former Cardiff Blues forward admitted he has thrived playing alongside the likes of experienced Leicester flanker Tom Croft.

“It was a huge move for me and I have played quite a bit of rugby in my first season so it has been really positive – it would be great to round the season off on a high,” he said.

“[Playing different positions] has really helped my game and I have been able to test myself against some of the best players in the world.

“The experience I have gained from my team, looking up to people like Tom Croft who has been brilliant for me. It’s a privilege.”
