Tigers director receives Enterprising Women Award

Leicester Tigers director Andrea Allen has scooped a top regional business prize.

As commercial director at Tigers, Andrea was named Inspirational Woman of the Year by the East Midlands Chamber at its 2016 Enterprising Women Awards.

After spending 11 years in the aviation industry in the United Arab Emirates, Andrea joined Tigers in 2004, initially as ticket sales manager. She later assumed responsibility for the growth of corporate hospitality, advertising and sponsorship, with the club turnover growing from £12.4million to £20million, and was appointed to the board of directors in 2014.

"It's a great honour to receive this award and recognition for a lot of hard work by a lot of people at Leicester Tigers," she said.

"The Enterprising Women Awards provides an opportunity for women in business across the region to showcase their work and all of the entrants are an inspiration to others to show what can be achieved in the commercial world.

"I am lucky enough to work in a vibrant environment at a club whose name is known throughout the sporting world and associated with consistent achievement. This is true not just for the players but also for all of the work that goes into supporting them by the team off the field."

The Chamber is the leading business organisation in the East Midlands. With a growing membership of more than 3,900 businesses and 3,000 affiliates, it is the second-largest chamber of commerce in the country.

Jean Mountain, Chamber president and joint-chair of Enterprising Women, said: "Congratulations to all the winners, finalists and runners-up. There were some very worthy entries for this year's awards and the standard of competition was extremely high."

Joint-chair Eileen Richards added: "The standard of entries has been very high this year. I think there is a real hunger among women in the business community to be recognised for their achievements and these awards are one of the best ways to achieve that recognition."
