Sale Sharks’ fan Jacob Ranson sees a dream come true

Jacob Ranson

As we all know, the Rugby Family is a close knit community, and one amazing gesture from RC Toulon and their fans has shown how special the bond really is.

On Friday night at the AJ Bell Stadium, young supporter Jacob Ranson came along with his mum Phillipa to watch his two favourite teams play each other – Sale Sharks and Toulon. On arriving at his seat he found himself sat among a bunch of Toulon fans, and they made him feel one of their own.

Speaking about the evening, Phillipa said: “He was so happy after finding himself sat with such a passionate group of fans who welcomed him into their family; one gentleman offered him his cap which he could not accept but then was given a flag and the team members who came over to acknowledge the travelling fansat the end of the match signed it for him; plus a few more later.

“He loved every minute of the game, which I have to admit was also thanks to the Toulon fans. Martin, his dad, noted he had never seen him so excited at a game before; even in recent one such as the World Rugby U20s or Rugby World Cup!”

At the end of the evening both parties went their separate ways, but on Sunday evening one of those Toulon supporters, Laetitia Rebx, appealed on social media to see if she could find out who this young fan was. After a few hours of retweets by Sale Sharks supporters, Jacob was found!

Laetitia then extended an invitation from the Toulon supporters to Jacob inviting him to attend the game at Stade Mayol in January, something that Phillipa couldn’t believe: “It is truly an amazing gesture by the Toulon fans, and we are still somewhat shocked as a family!”

There was an attempt by the supporters to try and fundraise the money for Jacob to attend, however, earlier this afternoon RC Toulon invited Jacob to be part of their team for the day and he’ll spend time with the staff and players!

Phillipa added: “He is a very lucky boy, and this is such an amazing gesture from Toulon, so I can’t thank them enough for this offer. He has not visited France before but we had talked about going to watch a game over there at some point in the future – it’s amazing!”
