Lions head coach Warren Gatland kicked off the competition by surprising Whitton Lions RFC during training, turning up with Lions legends Martin Johnson, Brian O’Driscoll, Gavin Hastings and Sir Gareth Edwards.
The surprise visit was the first in a series of Land Rover events in the build-up to the tour, involving grassroots rugby clubs, Land Rover retailers and rugby grounds around the UK and Ireland.
A British & Irish Lions branded vehicle will also be used to recruit entrants around the country at Land Rover events hosted by Premiership Rugby such as the national series of grassroots rugby festivals, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup as well as Land Rover’s famous Owner’s Hospitality, appearing at Premiership Rugby grounds during the season.
