Henry Purdy latest to sign for Gloucester Rugby

Gloucester Rugby are delighted to confirm that versatile back Henry Purdy has agreed a new deal with the club, beginning from the 2017/18 season.

Purdy, who joined the Cherry and Whites from Leicester Tigers in the summer of 2014, has gone on to become a key part of the squad, impressing greatly in 45 first team appearances to date.

The 22-year old started on the left wing at the start of the domestic season, scoring in the opening two fixtures against Leicester Tigers and Worcester Warriors, before being deployed against Saracens at outside centre in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, in another try scoring and influential display.

The Oxford-born flyer has developed his game in Cherry and White after joining the club off the back of lifting the Junior World Championship with England U20s in 2014.

After then helping the Cherry and Whites to the Singha Premiership 7s crown at the Twickenham Stoop, Purdy made his first team debut against Exeter Chiefs in September 2014 going on to notch up 26 appearances in his debut season, scoring 9 tries and also playing the full 80 minutes in the European Rugby Challenge Cup Final.

Director of Rugby David Humphreys is delighted to secure the winger’s future with the club and is excited to see his development continue.

“Henry has gone from strength to strength in a Gloucester shirt, and has been an important part of the squad in the past few seasons. We are excited to keep him at the club and contribute to our future.

“Henry has displayed a real maturity in his performances, and he is part of a really exciting group of young players that will hopefully have a big future in Cherry and White.”

Purdy himself was over the moon that he could secure his future and new contract so quickly.

“I’ve loved every second of my time at the club so the decision to agree the new deal was an easy one, definitely.

“I’ve made some great friends at the club, and I am really excited to continue making some great memories and help to fulfil our potential.”
