Heem named Franco Florenzi Player of the Season

Warriors winger Bryce Heem has won the Franco Florenzi Player of the Season award in his first campaign with the Club.

The big Kiwi has been a huge hit since arriving from Super Rugby side Waikato Chiefs in November, bagging seven tries in 18 appearances.

Heem fought-off stiff competition from scrum-half Francois Hougaard to pick-up 15 per cent of the votes to receive the gong.

Hougaard, who only played nine games but made a significant impact during his ten-week spell, enjoyed 14 per cent of the votes, with British & Irish Lion Donncha O'Callaghan just behind him with 13 per cent.

Tom Heathcote (eight per cent), Val Rapava Ruskin (seven per cent) and Nick Schonert (seven per cent) were also among the most voted for.

Heem exploded onto the scene against Newcastle Falcons at Sixways as his debut try helped set Warriors on their way to a 28-20 win back in November.

The former All Blacks Sevens star then wowed the Twickenham crowd with some powerful runs against Saracens and continued to impress throughout the season.

He helped himself to another try against London Irish before March's crucial fixture at Kingston Park where his score gave Warriors an all-important win over the Falcons.

A double against local rivals Gloucester Rugby soon followed to secure another big victory for Dean Ryan's side.

He then finished with a flurry, adding impressive scores against Wasps and Leicester Tigers, while his 60-metre burst in last weekend's clash versus Saracens allowed Cooper Vuna to touch down for one of the tries of the season.

Heem said: "It's an honour to receive this award and I'd like thank all the fans.

"I've really enjoyed my first year at the Club, there have been some great moments and I can't wait for more next season!”"
