Harlequins’ Luke Wallace wins Green Flag Forward of the Month

David Flatman announces his Forward of the Month for March and catches up with the Leicester Tigers as part of Green Flag’s At The Breakdown series.

This week Green Flag – official breakdown cover supplier of  Premiership Rugby – releases the latest episode of its monthly At The Breakdown series. Watch as pundit David Flatman goes under the bonnet at Leicester Tigers to announce his Forward of the Month and get the inside scoop from the players.

In the Forward of the Month for March, Flats had a tough decision to make, as he had to select one winner from four players in fine form for their clubs. Wasps' George Smith, Harlequins’ Dave Ward and Luke Wallace and Bath Rugby's Amanaki Mafi made the shortlist.

On each of the shortlisted players, Flats gave his reasons for their nomination:

George Smith, Wasps: “Let's face it, he's pretty much the best forward in the league overall at the moment. I hope he never leaves the Premiership.”

Dave Ward, Harlequins: “I played with Dave at Bath years ago, believe it or not. Since then his set piece work, his throwing and scrummaging have improved enormously. We all anecdotally agreed he was one of the best rugby players in our squad – I just love seeing him do well at Quins.”

Amanaki Mafi, Bath Rugby: “The Japanese International star from the Rugby World Cup arrived at Bath at No 8 and got straight into the team. Unbelievably explosive, powerful, quick player. I love watching him fight for his contact, he has been a brilliant signing.”

Luke Wallace, Harlequins: “Luke has been in stunning form this season. He was in pretty good form last season and the season before that, but once his mates Chris Robshaw and Jack Clifford have come back from England there is going to be some interesting selections to be made, considering Nick Easter, you would imagine is a shoo-in at No 8. I would be very surprised if Luke Wallace wasn't in that starting team from the off.”

Following analysis of each player's individual and team performances over the month of March, Flats awarded the Green Flag Forward of the Month for March to Harlequins' Luke Wallace.

On his selection, Flatman said: “This month's performances were as dominant as the last, however congratulations Luke you are our Green Flag Forward of the Month.”

Tomorrow Flats chats to Sam Harrison and Freddie Burns about life at the club, before catching up with Tom Croft on Friday. Videos of the interviews can be found at www.youtube.com/premiershiprugby.
