Harlequins appoints a Head of Recruitment

Harlequins is delighted to announce today (Thursday 19th May) that the Club has appointed Ed Spokes into the newly created role of Head of Recruitment.

Ed has a wealth of experience across the statistical side of rugby having worked at the club as Head of Analysis since 2003, where he has spent the last six years focusing on the opposition. He was also part of the Canada backroom team during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

John Kingston, Harlequins new Director of Rugby commented: "With the monetary values of our players ever increasing we recognised a need to augment our recruitment policy, especially given the Salary Cap guidelines within which we always adhere.

"I therefore wanted to take a fresh approach to this area and, with participation growing globally, look at identifying potential talent from a variety of nations, including England, who already demonstrate elements of the Harlequins style within their game, focusing predominantly on ability, character and potential.

"Ed is someone I have worked closely with during his time at the Club and I am delighted that he has accepted this promotion. I look forward to working with him in his new role."

Harlequins will continue to develop a wider scouting network, and further develop relationships with players, clubs, agents and unions worldwide as it builds on its ambition to be the best sports club in the world.

Ed Spokes added: "This is a fantastic opportunity to explore and improve all areas of our player recruitment.
“I am really looking forward to taking on this new challenge as we look to build and develop the Club I love and achieve long term success. I’d like to thank JK, Conor and David for their support in making it happen."
