Elliot Daly enjoying return to centres with Wasps

Wasps centre Elliot Daly is thoroughly enjoying being back in his favoured position for his club after featuring on the wing for England during their victorious RBS 6 Nations campaign.

Daly scored his side’s opening try slicing through Northampton Saints as Wasps grabbed a 32-30 victory before helping his side to a 36-21 win over Bristol Rugby a week later.

Wasps remain five points clear of second-placed Exeter Chiefs at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table and seven ahead of Saracens who are in third.

The 24-year-old centre started alongside the likes of Kurtley Beale, Jimmy Gopperth and Kyle Eastmond throughout this season and enjoys adjusting to their different qualities.

“I am enjoying being back playing in the centres, it is just a case of finding that form again back in my usual position,” he said.

“We always play the same way as a team but obviously players play slightly differently.

“Kurtley Beale is more of a running threat and may take it to the line more so I need to be more aware and closer to him for that offload.

“Whereas Jimmy (Gopperth) will take it to the line and pull it out the back so it is just a case of knowing who is around you.

“It was great to play alongside Kurtley and long may it continue.”

Daly and Wasps travel to the Twickenham Stoop to face Harlequins on April 28 before welcoming rivals Saracens a week later.

And the England centre is desperate to help Wasps reach their first Aviva Premiership Final since 2008 where they beat Leicester Tigers 26-16.

Wasps legends Tom Rees and Josh Lewsey got the tries on that afternoon at Twickenham with Mark van Gisbergen kicking 16 points from the tee.

“It would be amazing to reach the Premiership Final but obviously we have got to get through the semi-finals first,” Daly added.

“We have some big games left in the regular season first but it would be huge for us to get there after coming sixth last year, it would be a big step for the club.”
