Charities Day at Stadium MK

It will be Charities Day at stadiummk with a number of great causes benefitting from the Saints’ big Aviva Premiership match against Saracens.

The charities will have their logos on the starting team’s shirts – one per player – and the respective charities will receive 20 percent of the value of each ticket that they sell for the game, as well as their playing shirt signed by the player who wore it.

Supporters can order tickets in any area of the stadium through their chosen charity, with ticket prices starting at just £15.

The charities are:

CYNTHIA SPENCER HOSPICE Cynthia Spencer Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for South Northamptonshire. Cynthia Spencer Hospice provides inpatient care, outpatient services, Hospice@Home, lymphoedema service and palliative care clinical nurse specialist service. They have two specialist Consultants in palliative medicine, a team of doctors and specialist nurses working within the Hospice and the community as well as in Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital in Daventry. We offer specialist physical, psychological, social and spiritual care to those with life limiting illnesses. Our focus is on quality of life and respecting the uniqueness of each person.

ALFIE BEAR’S JOURNEY Alfie Bear’s Journey raises funds and awareness about Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a high-grade brain tumour which affects fewer than 40 children in the UK every year. DIPG is both inoperable and currently incurable, something which Alfie Bear’s Journey hopes to change through its support of paediatric brain tumour research.

DOWN’S SYNDROME GROUP NORTHAMPTONSHIRE This local charity supports friends and families in the community who have a connection to people with Down’s Syndrome. DSGN brings people together to offer advice, share experiences and learn from each other. The charity is run by people with direct experience of Down’s Syndrome, in most cases, parents.

CROHN’S AND COLITIS UK Crohn’s and Colitis UK is the leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and other forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Their mission is to work with all those affected by these conditions to achieve a better quality of life, improve services and ultimately find a cure for the one-in-250 people in the UK who are affected by IBD.

EMILY’S STAR Emily’s Star was set up in memory of Emily Mainwaring, who was born with Edwards Syndrome, a genetic disorder which occurs in around one in every 5,000 live births. Many of those affected die before birth and fewer than 10 percent of babies with the syndrome survive for more than a year. Emily lost her own battle after 26 days, and her parents are now raising funds to support Children with Complex Needs Nurses and their families across the UK.

SARCOMA UK Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels and the fatty and fibrous tissues. They can affect almost any part of the body, on the inside or the outside. Sarcoma is very rate, but around 3,800 new cases are diagnosed each year in the UK and much more research needs to be done to fully understand how these cancers develop and how best to diagnose and treat them. No one here at the Saints will forget the brave battle against sarcoma fought by Luis Ghaut, the team’s mascot at the 2014 Aviva Premiership final.

CHUMS Based in Bedfordshire, CHUMS is a mental health and emotional wellbeing service for children and young people. Established in 1997, CHUMS provides support for areas such as bereavement and traumatic bereavement, stillbirth and neonatal support for adults, trauma following sexual abuse or domestic violence, suicide response, as well as mentoring and supporting young carers and young people experiencing mental health issues.

RSPCA NORTHAMPTONSHIRE The RSPCA’s work is invaluable to the lives of the many animals that have suffered from cruelty or neglect. The Northamptonshire branch is independent of the national society and is a separately registered charity, receiving no funding from the government or National Lottery. RSPCA Northamptonshire rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes approximately 700 animals per year, all of which are cared for a by a dedicated team of voluntary fosterers.

NIAMH’S NEXT STEP This Northampton charity has close links with the Saints thanks to the patronage of Alex Waller, Ben Foden and Lee Dickson. Established in the memory of Niamh Curry, who lost her 18-month battle with neuroblastoma aged just five, Niamh’s Next Step raises funds and awareness about this aggressive childhood cancer. Around 100 people are diagnosed with neuroblastoma in the UK each year, of which only around 30 percent will survive.

ABF: THE SOLDIERS’ CHARITY ABF The Soldiers’ Charity gives a lifetime of support to soldiers and veterans from the British Army, and their immediate families, when they are in need. They make grants to individuals through their Regiments and Corps and support a wide range of specialist charities that sustain the British Army ‘family’, both at home and around the world.

THE AIR AMBULANCE A rapid response time to trauma and medical emergency can be the difference between life and death. The Air Ambulance service flies two ambulances across Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, providing a rapid response across an area of 3,850 square miles covering many of the UK’s major motorways. Between the two ambulances they attend an average of six missions per day, but they do not receive any government funding and instead have to rely on generous donations.
