Match Reaction: Dragons 23 Scarlets 18

Dragons fought back from 12 points down to secure their first Anglo-Welsh Cup win of the season at Rodney Parade with a 23-18 success over Scarlets.

The PRO14 champions led thanks to tries from full-back Tomi Lewis and centre Rhodri Jones but were pegged back early in the second-half and never recovered.

Ellis Shipp and debutant Dan Babos brought the Dragons level before replacement prop Brok Harris got the all-important third try which turned out to be crucial.

Man of the Match

Scrum-half Dan Babos impressed on debut and even managed to cap his performance with a try as the Dragons pack showed their power at maul time.

Babos had been in line to start against Ulster in the league earlier this season but a hamstring injury forced him to wait to make his Dragons birth.

He grabbed his opportunity with both hands at Rodney Parade on Friday night.

Try of the Match

With Scarlets giving away a penalty at 15-15, the experienced Gavin Henson kicked the ball deep into Scarlets territory and the forwards did the rest.

At the line-out, the Dragons drove towards the line before Brok Harris, a former prop for the Stormers in Super Rugby, eventually forced his way over to get what turned out to be the match-winning try.

Moment of the Match

Javan Sebastian’s yellow card proved crucial for the Scarlets. From the resulting penalty, the Dragons were able to find the corner and their second try followed soon after.

And with Sebastian off the pitch for ten minutes, the Dragons took full advantage with Harris going over to complete the home side’s comeback.
