Falcons and Braves face off for Shield final place
The second semi-final of the Premiership Rugby Shield will see Newcastle Falcons host Exeter Braves for a place in the showpiece final.
The two sides finished their seasons with identical records of eight wins and two losses with that being enough for Newcastle to take top spot in the Northern Conference.
Meanwhile in the Southern Conference, Exeter shared the same record with table toppers Saracens, finishing just a point behind them.
And Exeter may well be up against it on Monday night as they will face a team with the best defensive and offensive record across both conferences.
The winners will face a final against a Saracens Storm side who saw off defending champions Northampton Wanderers 89-7 in the first of the semi-finals last month.
Exeter’s final game of the regular season ended in a 51-26 defeat to Saracens at Sandy Park after beating them 47-24 in their first encounter of the season way back in September.
Newcastle finished their season on a high with a 31-27 win over Worcester Cavaliers at Kingston Park and will be hoping they can carry the momentum into the semi-finals – especially after their parent team was relegated from the Gallagher Premiership on Saturday.
If Newcastle are successful in Monday’s semi-final, the final would be held at Kingston Park due to Newcastle’s top seeding as Northern Conference winners.
