TEAM NEWS: Bristol Bears make eleven changes for Gloucester
* Piutau could make first competitive outing from bench
* Muldowney and Thiede also listed among replacements
* Eleven changes from side that suffered defeat in opening round
* Callum Sheedy skippers Bristol on Friday night
Charles Piutau could make his first competitive outing for the club when Bristol host Gloucester on Friday (7.45pm KO).
The utility back – who has been unavailable with a shoulder injury – is included among the replacements alongside fellow summer signing Aly Muldowney.
The Bears make eleven changes from the side that suffered defeat to Northampton in the opening round of the Premiership Cup.
Luke Morahan starts at full back, while Piers O’Conor, Ryan Edwards and Andy Uren come into the back line. Callum Sheedy skippers Bristol in a competitive fixture for the first time.
In the pack, Jack Cosgrove and Academy forwards John Hawkins and James Dun make their first starts of the campaign, while Sam Jeffries, Nick Haining and Dan Thomas all return.
“These Premiership Cup clashes are an ideal opportunity to test combinations and build our game as we approach a busy period of league fixtures at the end of the month,” said head coach Pat Lam.
“There is the added impetus on Friday night of a derby game in front of our home supporters against a very talented Gloucester side. It’s pleasing to welcome a group of guys back from injury and we can expect a few more returning to fitness over the next week or so.”
Lewis Thiede recovers from a knee injury to be listed among the replacements for the first time since September.
