RFU Disciplinary Hearing: Ryan Bower

RFU Disciplinary Hearing: Ryan Bower

Ryan Bower of Worcester Warriors appeared before an independent disciplinary panel last night.

He was shown a red card by referee Wayne Barnes in the 68th minute of the match Worcester Warriors v Bristol Bears on Sunday 7 October 2018. This was for dangerous play in a ruck, contrary to Law 9.20 (making contact with an opponent above the line of the shoulders).

Bower accepted the charge and was given a two week suspension by the independent panel comprising Daniel White (chair) with John Murphy and Nigel Stelling. Bower is free to play again on 23 October 2018.

Independent panel chair Daniel White said: “The panel found that the player had been in control of his actions when entering the ruck and had not charged in off his feet. However it was accepted by the player that he had made direct contact with the head of Will Hurrell.

“As a result, the mandatory entry point of mid-range applied. The panel allowed maximum credit on account of the player’s plea, previous clear record and all other mitigating features being present. He is suspended for two weeks and is free to play again on Tuesday 23 October.”
