Leicester Tigers team news for Premiership Rugby Cup Round 3

Leicester Tigers welcome back captain Tom Youngs and fellow forwards Mike Williams, Greg Bateman and Guy Thompson for Friday’s home game against Sale Sharks in the Premiership Rugby Cup.

Second-rower Mike Fitzgerald returns to the squad for the first time since the opening day of the season after recovering from a knee injury.

Following defeat in the opening two rounds of the new knockout competition, Tigers retain a blend of youth and experience with Ben White starting at scrum-half and fellow Under-20s caps Tom Hardwick, Jordan Olowofela, Joe Heyes and Tommy Reffell in the matchday 23 alongside some of the more experienced members of the squad.

Adam Thompstone and Kyle Eastmond are included in the backline where White and Hardwick team up at half-back.

Argentina international prop Gaston Cortes starts in Tigers colours for the first time since his arrival in the summer, while Will Evans continues at flanker after making his return from injury in the match against Worcester Warriors last weekend.

Coach Brett Deacon said: “We had a good battle with Sale Sharks when they came here in the league earlier this season and we’re expecting nothing less again.

“We’ve got some bodies back in the last few weeks and now Mike Fitzgerald is available again too. He brings a lot to the squad with his workrate and that hard edge.”

Tickets for Friday’s game are available now. Book in person, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or online at This fixture is included in Tigers season tickets.
