Leicester Tigers name team to face Worcester Warriors

Will Evans starts in the back row of a Leicester Tigers pack which also includes Graham Kitchener and Will Spencer for Saturday’s Premiership Rugby Cup game against Worcester Warriors at Welford Road (3.00pm).

The 21-year-old Evans makes his first appearance of the season after a knee injury ended the 2017/18 campaign early and he joins fellow academy graduate Fred Tuilagi and Tonga international Valentino Mapapalangi in the back row.

Former Warriors locks Kitchener and Spencer team up in the Tigers second row for the first time, while Facundo Gigena starts at prop for the first time this season.

Matt Smith captains the team in his 220th first-team appearance, joining Gareth Owen at centre as England Under-20s cap Tom Hardwick moves to fly-half.

There is a place among the replacements for former Tigers centre Andrew Forsyth, now with Yorkshire Carnegie in the Championship.

Tigers coach Brett Deacon said: “We’ve got a few bodies back this week and it’s good to have Will Evans involved again, but there’s still a blend of youth and experience throughout the squad.

“The effort at Saracens last week could not be faulted but we need to learn a few tactical lessons from that game and take them into Saturday.”

Tickets for Saturday’s game are available now. Book in person, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or online at leicestertigers.com/matchtickets. This fixture is included in Tigers season tickets.
