Flats selects his XV from Round 12 of Gallagher Premiership Rugby
The Gallagher Premiership Rugby picture shifts significantly every time another round of unmissable action takes place.
But the end of Round 12 heralds a very special event – David Flatman has picked his star XV.
In the front row, Ross Harrison is picked out by Flats following his impressive showing in Sale Sharks’ victory over high-flying Saracens.
Harrison is joined by Leicester Tigers veteran Dan Cole, the British & Irish Lion playing a key role in his team’s 34-16 victory over Gloucester Rugby, while Worcester Warriors’ Jack Singleton also gets the nod to complete a fearsome forward line.
His side may have come out on the wrong end of proceedings at Welford Road but Gloucester’s Gerbrandt Grobler takes the No.4 shirt, featuring alongside Wasps’ Joe Launchbury, who showed few signs of ring rust as he shone on his return to the fray following a knee injury, the England international helping inspire Dai Young’s men to beat Northampton Saints.
In the back row, Harlequins’ Alex Dombrant once again did enough to win over Flats, the 21-year-old bagging a try against Newcastle Falcons as his fine individual season rumbles on.
Gloucester’s Gareth Evans, another try-scorer in Round 12, also gets the nod, as does Worcester’s Jono Ross, who is installed at No.8 following a colossal display against Saracens.
Leicester’s man-of-the-match George Ford edged out Harlequins’ Marcus Smith for Flats’ fly-half berth, the England star having been at the heart of his team’s efforts as they overcame Gloucester, while the dynamic Faf de Klerk is picked at scrum-half.
Two more Sale men form Flats’ centre pairing – James O’Connor and Sam James are the standout candidates at 12 and 13, having both played their part in that fine Saracens success.
Flats has also plumped for Mike Brown – now Harlequins’ record appearance-maker – at full-back.
Meanwhile, Worcester’s Bryce Heem, who bagged two tries as his team overcame Bath Rugby 21-19, and Sale’s Denny Solomona round off another star-studded XV.
