Match reaction: Scarlets 18 Sale Sharks 45

Sale Sharks finished with a flourish in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, signing off their 2017-18 campaign by running in seven tries to humble the Scarlets.

Qualification for the knockout stages may have already been an impossibility, with Harlequins starting the evening six points ahead in Pool Two, but Steve Diamond’s troops put on a show in Llanelli, with seven different scorers going over.

Man of the match – Will Cliff

Cliff departed the action after adding the extras to Arron Reed’s 51st-minute score, the 29-year-old slotting away four conversions.

The Sale scrum-half also bagged a try for himself, darting over the line after being fed by Cameron Redpath.

Try of the match

Sale bagged three tries in the space of eight first-half minutes and the third of those, from Ben Curry, was the pick of the bunch.

Full-back Mike Haley was the man that opened up the Scarlets, his exhilarating burst through creating the space for Curry to crash over the line underneath the posts.

Moment of the match

Scotland international Josh Strauss made his return for the Sharks off the bench, his first taste of action since he was sidelined with a shoulder injury in December.

The 31-year-old didn’t take long to get back up to speed, going over with 10 minutes to go, after Sale had seen Faf de Klerk dismissed for two yellow cards, to help ease his team to victory.
