From Clooney to Harrison – London Wasps are calling all Georges!
  • Wasps are offering all rugby fans called George an exclusive ticket deal to come and watch first class rugby at the home of England Rugby for just £1.
  • Wasps are also undertaking a search to find out who the most popular George is!

Yesterday may have been St Patrick's Day with thousands across England celebrating, but London Wasps, one of England's most famous rugby clubs, are also asking fans to remember St George.

As part of their annual St George's Day Game against Bath Rugby at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 23 April, Wasps are offering all rugby fans called George an exclusive ticket deal to come and watch first class rugby at the home of England Rugby for just £1. Tickets for the match, which are on sale now, are priced from just £15 for adults and £8 for kids but Georges of all ages, as well as Georginas, Georgettes, Georgies etc. are all eligible for a special ticket price of just £1 when purchased alongside a full priced ticket.

So whether it’s George Clooney, Galloway, Boy George or even George from Rainbow, all will be welcome at the home of England Rugby this St George's Day for less than a pint!

The match will be played on actual St George's Day for the first time this year, which is also Easter Saturday, and Wasps owner Steve Hayes hopes fans will embrace the opportunity to celebrate all things English just a few days before the Royal Wedding.  He said, "I am a proud English man and was thrilled with the response to our inaugural St George's Day Game against Bath last season. Thousands of fans came to Twickenham to share in one of the greatest atmospheres I have ever experienced at a rugby match. This year I am delighted the match actually falls on St George's Day and also on Easter Saturday so I really hope families – and as many people called George – come and share the day with us at Twickenham."

In the build up to the special game which will raise money for four special military charities – Combat Stress, BLESMA, the Special Boat Service Association and the Royal Parachute Regiment Charity – Wasps are undertaking a search to find out who England's most popular George is.  The club is asking players and fans to vote for their favourite George from a line- up of options. The poll is currently hosted on the St George’s Day Game website with the results being announced ahead of the game. Vote now at www.stgeorgesdaygame.co.uk/competition.php. All those who vote will be entered into a draw to win either a signed Wasps or Bath rugby jersey. (The poll to find England’s most popular George gives fans the option to vote for George Michael; Boy George; Georgie Thompson; George from Rainbow; George Galloway; George Best; George Lamb; George Clooney; George Harrison and an option to vote for another George of their choice!)

The game falls on Round 21 of Aviva Premiership Rugby and, with playoff spots potentially up for grabs, both clubs could have everything to play for on the pitch. Both clubs boast an enviable line up of international stars in their teams (sadly none are called George!), including Wasps and England stars Simon Shaw, Joe Worsley and Riki Flutey and Bath England trio Danny Grewcock, Matt Banahan and Lewis Moody. In addition to the match, Wasps will be laying on a whole day of family entertainment including inflatable rugby games and activities, food and drinks stalls and a full line up of musical entertainment.

Find out more at www.stgeorgesdaygame.co.uk and make sure you are there to celebrate St George's Day in style. To claim your £1 ticket you just need to take photo ID to either the RFU Ticket office at Twickenham, Bath Rugby ticket office or Wasps ticket office at Adams Park in advance of the match day. Only redeemable when purchased alongside one full priced ticket (any category, including concessions).
