Fielden’s joy at new deal

Newcastle Falcons can confirm that in form back, Luke Fielden has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Kingston Park.

The 24-year-old was snapped up from Bedford in the summer, having previously enjoyed a successful stint in the Falcons academy during his time as a student in Newcastle.

Fielden has racked up 6 tries for the northeasterners this campaign and is delighted to stay on Tyneside.

“I’m really pleased and it’s a bit of a weight off my shoulder,” said Fielden.

“To have that stability and know where I’m going to be for the next two years of my life is great. I can get my head down now and work hard,” he added.

14 tries in 25 starts for Bedford last season, prompted head coach Alan Tait to bring the athletic winger to the north-east.

Tait said: "He's given a lot this year and he's been outstanding to be fair. He's really sharp, quick and takes his opportunities really well.

"I'm glad for him because he came up from Bedford and was desperate to prove himself at a premiership club. He's proved his worth and he can do it in the premiership.

"He's scored some brilliant tries already this season and I'm just pleased he decided to stay with us."
