Ellis has ban reduced on appeal

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

The 21-year-old was originally handed the ban after an incident in the Powergen Cup sixth round tie against the Sharks at Welford Road on November 15.

However, Ellis will now be free to resume playing from January 13 after an appeal by his club and will be available for Tigers' Heineken Cup clash against Ulster a few days later.

Jeff Blackett, the RFU disciplinary officer, who heard the appeal as an arbitrator, said: "I accepted the finding of the panel that it was not a deliberate act but that it was reckless.

"He did not intend to inflict injury on any other player and it was not a case of head-butting but the less serious offence of striking an opponent with his head in a reckless manner."
