Leeds Tykes have today confirmed that they have signed South African international Andre Snyman, 29, with immediate effect and the centre will arrive in the UK in time for the Tykes trip to Northampton on 22nd November.

Snyman, who has 36 caps for the Springboks, was part of the Natal Sharks side which reached the Currie Cup Final last weekend, has signed on a two year contract at Headingley.

Commenting on his signing Director of Rugby Phil Davies said, "We are extremely pleased to have signed a player of Andre's ability.  Most importantly, he is coming to us as a 29-year-old in his rugby prime and we are looking forward to his arrival.  Our midfield has needed strengthening, especially following the departure of Braam van Straaten last season, and Andre has all the qualities we have been looking for.

"He has the complete package as a player; he is strong and quick on attack and a tough defender.  He will add great experience to our midfield," added Davies.

Snyman made his debut for South Africa in August 1996 when still just 22 however his most memorable moment came against England at Twickenham in 1997 when he scored an individual try to spark a decisive Springbok victory. He played in all three Tests against the Lions in 1997 also.

Snyman is relishing the prospect of playing in the Zurich Premiership with Leeds Tykes, "I am very happy to be joining Leeds Tykes. I am very keen and excited about what is going to be a fresh opportunity to further my rugby career with a great club. I am looking forward to it. I have enjoyed my time at the Sharks and will certainly miss the good friendships I have built up here.  I am, however, thrilled with the opportunity to go and play at Leeds."

Brian van Zyl, CEO of the Natal Sharks, said that, "Andre goes with our blessing and good wishes for the future. He has always given of his best for the Sharks and his presence and experience will be missed on the field."

Phil Davies will be available at 11am on Wednesday 5th November at the Leeds Rugby Academy at Kirkstall to preview the Tykes game at Sale Sharks this Saturday at 2.45pm plus he will be able to speak about the signing of Andre Snyman.
