Hodgson on the bench for Sale Sharks

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

CHARLIE Hodgson will play his first game in eight months on Friday when Sale Sharks entertain London Irish at Edgeley Park, kick-off 7.45pm

The Sale and England stand-off, who ruptured cruciate ligaments playing for his country during last season's Grand Slam Six Nations campaign, will start on the bench but head coach Jim Mallinder says he will play some part in the game.

Hodgson strolled through the first half of an A team game against Wakefield on Monday night and declared himself fit afterwards.

He said: "Everything went well, and I just want to get back into first team action as soon as possible."

Mallinder added: "Charlie's a world class player and you miss guys like that."

TEAM: Going, Cueto, Van Straaten, Bond, Hanley, Walshe, Wigglesworth, Yates, Titterrell, Turner, Fullarton, Schofield, Sanderson (c), Pinkerton, Jones. Reps: Cairns, Sheridan, Stewart, Lund, Devlin, Mayor, Hodgson.
