Cash boost for Tykes and Titans

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

The two newest additions to the Premiership, Rotherham and Leeds, have struggled to generate the funds enjoyed by their Premiership rivals, but this new initiative will redress that balance over a two-year period.

The cash will come from the £21m in central revenue generated by PRL through the various broadcast and sponsorship deals that it has put in place and will help the two clubs to continue their development as top-flight sporting institutions.

PRL has a long-standing 'shareholder structure' in place, with clubs earning shares with each year of membership in the Zurich Premiership and retain these after relegation.

"PRL's objective in setting up this approach is to both recognise the value the clubs are creating over time, but also to encourage further investment from a stable base in an environment where automatic promotion and relegation exists and with an expectation that promoted clubs should invest equitably into the development of the Premiership," read a statement from the organisation.
