Leeds flanker gets nine-week ban

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

The 25-year-old Irishman's offence was brought up by the independent citing commissioner, after he stamped on Wasps' former England hooker Phil Greening.

Former Connacht star Rigney now misses eight Zurich Premiership games, against Saracens, Leicester, Harlequins (twice), London Irish, Gloucester, Northampton and Sale Sharks, as well as a Powergen Cup sixth round tie.

He will, however, be back for their opening Heineken Cup tie in early December when they host the Neath-Swansea Ospreys.

Leeds chalked up their first win of the season last weekend by beating Yorkshire rivals Rotherham at Headingley, having been beaten by Bath and Wasps in their other two outings.
