Howley leads Wasps in Zurich Challenge

The scrum-half leads a side containing five of their new off-season signings – Tom Voyce, Tim Payne, Ian Clarke, Jonny O'Connor and Peter Richards – as well as three of last season's Under-21 players – Martin Purdy, Tom French and George Skivington.

There is also a welcome return for Winger Shane Rosier, who missed the majority of last season through injury.

But missing from the squad is prop Craig Dowd, the former All Black having arranged leave before the game was scheduled. Former Ireland Under-21 prop Sean Phillips thus deputises on the tighthead.

The match – the first annual showdown between the English and French Champions – will be staged at Wasps' home ground, the Causeway Stadium (formerly Adams Park) and will thereafter alternate between England and France each year, with the game staged in the lead-up to the new domestic season in both countries.
