Johnson pens new Leicester deal

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

The Leicester Mercury reports that the 33-year-old Johnson has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Welford Road outfit, the player stating: "I just go one year at a time."

Tigers coach Dean Richards has hinted that Johnson could well feature in the Leicester backroom team once his playing days are over, much like scrum-half Jamie Hamilton, who has just been added to the coaching staff after being a player there for some years.

With both Johnson and Back being away for the World Cup, former New Zealand openside Josh Kronfeld will skipper the Tigers during the opening months of the Premiership this season, as they aim to regain the title they lost to London Wasps last time round.
