He goes in the opposite direction to England prop Mike Worsley, who recently signed a three-year contract with Harlequins for next season.

The 29-year-old Greenstock won four Test caps for England at centre, scoring two tries in his short international career. He joins Irish having played previously for London Wasps.

London Irish Managing Director Conor O'Shea, whose team finished a disappointing ninth in the Premiership last season, said that it was imperative for his club to bolster the squad with some experienced players, given the retirement of former Springbok centre Brendan Venter.

"We realised the need to augment our resources in the midfield and also recognise that a senior player within the squad is an essential ingredient," he said.

"In this respect Nick Greenstock brings talent and experience which will be vital to the squad."

Commenting on his move to join the Exiles, Greenstock said he was relishing the chance at playing for them, saying: "I am excited about the potential the London Irish squad represents, and have been impressed with the plans for the club. The move represents a new challenge for me, and I am looking forward to it."
