Neck injury ends Shaw’s tour

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

Shaw will consult a specialist when he returns home, with the England team opting not to send out a replacement for him.

The London Wasps lock was one of the star performers for England in the 23-9 win over the Maori in terrible conditions, scoring the first try following a strong driving maul from the English pack.

However, while Shaw was expected to recover from the injury rather quickly and possibly get a place as a replacement for the New Zealand Test, it was not to be, with England 'A' lock Steve Borthwick making the bench instead.

Borthwick enjoyed a solid season for Zurich Premiership side Bath this season as well as being a part of England's squad during their Grand Slam winning campaign.

This week sees England begin preparations for their match against the world champion Wallabies in Sydney as they seek their first-ever win in Australia.
