Hooker Mears re-signs with Bath

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

The past season was a successful one for the young front rower who established himself as the understudy to veteran Welsh hooker Jonathan Humphreys.

Lee expressed great pleasure in signing the new contract with Bath and said he was looking forward to challenging for a regular starting place in the Zurich Premiership next season.

"I have been with Bath Rugby since 1998 and very much regard it as my home. Therefore a move anywhere else was never on the cards," said the 24-year-old.

"I am really looking forward to next season in the Zurich Premiership and a chance to fight for a starting place in what looks like being an extremely competitive front row."

Bath's Director of Rugby Jack Rowell believes that the hooker will have a golden opportunity over the next couple of seasons to fulfil his promise as a starting hooker.

"Lee has an excellent opportunity over the next couple of seasons with Bath Rugby. His ability and pace around the field makes him [Lee] an excellent impact player when entering a game after 60 minutes – as he has proven for us over the past season.

"The next two years will be a critical time in Lee's career. He needs to have the opportunity to show that he is indeed a player of Zurich Premiership capability. We believe that he has this potential, but it is up to Lee to show it."
