The fly-half will compete for the Tykes' No.10 shirt with fellow Scottish international Gordon Ross who is likely to be away with Scotland on World Cup duty for the first half of the season.

The 28-year-old has won a total of 26 caps for Scotland since his Test debut back in 1997 against France and was the architect of his team's shock win over England at a rain-soaked Murrayfield in the 2000 Six Nations championship, scoring all the points in Scotland's 19-13 victory.

"Duncan is a highly experienced player and an excellent goal-kicker," said Tykes Director of Rugby Phil Davies.

"I am delighted that a player of his quality has become available and that he has agreed to join us."

The Tykes have also confirmed the signing of Australian Sevens player Tim Walsh from Worcester on a one-year deal.

Walsh played for Australia in the Commonwealth Games last year and has been a key man for Worcester, who finished as runners-up to Rotherham in National Division One this year.
