The fly-half has not played since the victory over London Irish last month, having been sidelined with a recurrence of the hamstring problem that has dogged his season so far.
However, the 31-year-old came through a training session on Friday morning without any problems and has thus been named in the match-day squad for the bottom-of-the-table West Country men.
Co-coach Mike Foley says that despite last weekend's disappointing defeat to Bristol Shoguns at Ashton Gate, his side are ready for the challenge that lies ahead. "Certainly we are aware of where we are at," said Foley.
"You look at the fixtures and would think that one of those sides would lose. The very simple message is that we need a win.
"The focus is that we need to win against a side that is full of confidence. That adds to the challenge, which is an extremely big one."
John Mallett will be making his farewell appearance at the Rec before hanging up his boots at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old former England prop has made 217 appearances for his club since making his debut in 1990 and will be quitting the game to take up a post as Director of Rugby at Brighton College after the Parker Pen Challenge Cup Final later this month.
