Double injury-blow for Saints tight five

A Gallagher Premiership Rugby ball

Both were diagnosed with fractures – a right toe for prop Smith, a Scotland stalwart, and a rib for lock Phillips.

Smith's last game for the Northampton Saints was against Newcastle on Sunday, April 20, while Phillips last played at Franklin's Gardens against Bristol Shoguns on Wednesday, April 16.

Northampton are currently in fifth place on the Zurich Premiership standings, with 53 points from 20 games in the 2002/03 season.

Powergen Cup champions Gloucester, who top the table with 76 points from 20 matches, are already sure of a place in the Zurich Premiership Final at Twickenham in May, with Wasps (62), Sharks (61), defending champions, Leicester Tigers (54), and Saints battling it out for the other places in the top five.
