The powerful 30-year-old – who stands 6ft tall and weighs in at 17st 4lbs – has played all his rugby with French club Perpignan where he has built up a reputation as a extremely effective scrummager.
Peillard has been drafted into the Saints squad for next season as back-up to Scotland and Lions loosehead Tom Smith who is likely to be absent for long stretches due to international commitments.
Northampton Saints Operations Director John Steele said: "All clubs will have to make an educated guess on who they will lose during the World Cup, and we can be fairly certain that Tom will be called away with Scotland. Peillard will form part of a group, along with some of our young props, that will be utilised during the 11-match World Cup period."
Peillard, who is married with two children, is due to join the squad for their pre-season preparations in August.
