Date set for ‘Battle of the Codes’

Both clubs have promised to field their strongest possible sides for the game that will consist of 40 minutes Rugby League and 40 minutes Rugby Union, the scores from each half being added together to find the best side in the North West.

Several of the Sharks players including Jason Robinson, Apollo Perelini, Steve Hanley and Chris Mayor have played Rugby League and other Sharks players including Charlie Hodgson, Mark Cueto and Bryan Redpath are big fans of the 13 a side code. Charlie Hodgson and Head Coach Jim Mallinder hail from Halifax and both follow the fortunes of the Halifax Rugby League Team in the Tetley’s Super League.

Robinson is looking forward to the game and said, "Knowsley Road has been a happy hunting ground for me in my Wigan days and it will be great to go back there for this unique game. I have spent two years learning to let go of the ball when tackled, on the night of this game I will have to remember to hang on to it during the Rugby League part of the match. It promises to be a great night for the fans."

Former St Helens player Apollo Perelini said, “I had a great time in my career at Knowsley Road, winning several trophies. The fans are very special to me and it will be fantastic to run out on the pitch again. Although it will seem strange, not only to line up against St Helens but also to be playing in the same side as Jason in a league game."

Kick-off time and ticket prices for the game will be announced shortly.
