The made made life hard for themselves but in the end the victory was comfortable. The Tykes always had the lead. Scotland's Gordon Ross gave them the lead with three penalty goals to make it 9-0 at half-time.

Australian Scott Staniforth scored a try in the corner to make it 9-5, but really the visitors were being outplayed and five minutes after Staniforth's try South African André Snyman, playing on the right-wing, scored a try which Ross converted. That was that.
