Sharks winger Mark Cueto weighed in with a hat-trick of tries, while fit-again England fly-half Charlie Hodgson helped himself to 14 points – through one try, three conversions and one penalty goal.
Newcastle had earlier opened the scoring through a Tom May drop-goal, but when Hodgson levelled the score with a penalty the home side never looked back, as the latter crossed for a five-pointer, followed by two from Cueto.
The home team went into the break at 22-6 up, but the Falcons did threaten at one stage to launch a fightback when Phil Dowson – who scored the winning try in the Powergen Cup Final – got over for a try, which Dave Walder converted.
Dowson's try, however, was not enough to stop Sale – and neither was a subsequent penalty from Walder, as Cueto completed his hat-trick after the break, with the latter's wing partner, Steve Hanley, getting over for his side's fifth try soon afterwards.
Replacement Scott Benton got Sale's sixth try before full-time, with replacement fly-half, USA Eagles star Mike Hercus, taking the Sharks past the 40-point barrier.
