Saracens down the Falcons

28 Jan 2005
Saracens down the Falcons

The Falcons had to be content with a consolation try as full-time drew near.

Besides the Falcons' defeat there was also real concern for the whole of England as Jamie Noon limped off clutching a thigh in the first half and did not play again in the match. Given England's centre crisis this was bad news.

It was the heavy Saracens pack, led by Hugh Vyvyan, a lock at No.8, which laid the foundation for the victory.

At the start New Zealander Glen Jackson traded penalties with Australian Matt Burke, till Jackson made it 6-3, and the Saracens got two tries in five minutes.

First the former All Black captain Taine Randell went over and then lock Kris Chesney. Jackson converted Chesney's try.

Just before half-time Burke goaled his second penalty to make it 18-6 at half-time.

There was little change to the state of play in the second half as Saracens continued to dominate. Vyvyan got their first try of the half and then Ben Russell the sceond which brought the bonus point. All four of the Sarcens' tries were scored by forwards.Scorers:
