Saints skipper and inside centre John Leslie scored two tries, while New Zealand back Bruce Reihana added nine points with his boot as the Northampton side bounced back from their Powergen Cup disappointment.
The home side held a 14-0 half-time lead thanks to tries from Leslie and England wing Ben Cohen, both of which were converted by Reihana, while Sharks eventually got on the scoreboard through fly-half Jos Baxendell's boot.
Sharks hooker Andy Titterrell added to his side's account with a try in the 57th minute – which Baxendell converted – but Leslie's second try, converted by Reihana cancelled the hooker's score.
Former Wallaby Graeme Bond hit back soon afterwards with the Sharks' second try, converted again by Baxendell, but a late Matt Dawson penalty and a sin-binning for the Sharks' Phil Davies, secured the game for the home team.
