The Londoners were in irrepressible form, scoring six tries to give the club a boost after a miserable start to the season and wasted no time in showing they meant business against the visitors, flanker Pat Sanderson touching down a try within the very first minute after a fumble by Newcastle.
While Falcons’ England No.10 Jonny Wilkinson fought manfully against overwhelming odds throughout the 80 minutes, supplying a try, three penalties and two conversions to keep his team looking respectable, the North-Easterners were never in the match.
Prop Laurent Gomez scored Quins’ second try in the 30th minute, with fly-half David Slemen adding the extras, but it was the second half when the home side cut loose, scoring four tries.
The last quarter saw Quins in dominant form, No.8 Tony Diprose, centre Will Greenwood, scrum-half Nick Duncombe and hooker Tani Fuga all crossing the line.
