Saracens let themselves down with some poor discipline and Kris Chesney was shown a yellow card early on for pulling back Gloucester winger Marcel Garvey in a chase for the ball after scrum-half Andy Gomarsall's chip had rolled over the line. Paul made the error more costly with a successful penalty kick and he added another moments later to stretch the lead.
Garvey put his team further in front after 20-minutes with the 'Cherry and Whites' only try and Paul added further pressure to Saracens with the conversion and another three-pointer.
But Saracens answered back with a try of their own courtesy of Canadian scrum-half Morgan Williams.
But fly-half Nicki Little, who suffered a terrible afternoon with the boot, failed to put over the conversion and he missed out on another opportunity when he pushed a penalty attempt wide shortly after.
Little closed the gap with three minutes left with a penalty kick, his only success of the afternoon with the boot, after Gloucester flanker Junior Paramore was sent to the sin-bin for punching, but it was too late for Saracens with the game already lost.
