It was a drab tale of two kickers in the end, with Wasps’ Kiwi fly-half Mark van Gisbergen giving Warren Gatland’s side an early lead with a penalty in the eighth minute.
Leicester fullback Tim Stimpson – tipped by some to be in the England side to face New Zealand next Saturday at Twickenham – levelled the scores nine minutes later with a penalty of his own.
With openings hard to come by, it was Stimpson again who nudged the home side ahead with his second penalty on 31 minutes, and by the time Van Gisbergen had slotted his second, Stimpson had added another to give Leicester a 9-6 advantage.
That was the score at half-time, and with the second half proving even more uneventful than the first, this forgettable match saw that same scoreline end up as the final result – a valuable win for the champions as they aim to catch up with leaders Gloucester.
