Leeds beat Saints to reclaim second spot

The Yorkshiremen opened the scoring after only five minutes with a try from big wing George Harder, and it was not long after that fullback Dan Scarbrough went over for their second following a Braam van Straaten penalty.

Playing without international stars Ben Cohen, Matt Dawson, Steve Thompson, Budge Pountney and Tom Smith among others, the Saints struggled to get going, four penalties from Paul Grayson all they had to show from the first 73 minutes of the match.

By the time second-row Rob Hunter finally went over for the visitors’ first and only try, Craig Emmerson had added a third for Leeds, giving last year’s strugglers an insurmountable lead, as their superb start to the season continues.
