Gloucester outscored Michael Foley’s men two tries to one, but it was the boot of Barkley that once again rescued try-less Bath.
Gloucester led 11-9 at the break, with a try from young England back-row James Forrester and two penalties from French fly-half Ludovic Mercier cancelling out Barkley’s two early penalties and a drop-goal from fly-half Chris Malone.
The second half again saw the Cherry and Whites dominate the try count, with England Sevens star Henry Paul continuing to improve his stock in the 15-man game with a try fifteen minutes into the half.
He converted his own score as well as slotting a penalty, but with Barkley booting a further four penalties to keep the scoreboard ticking over, the Recreation Ground crowd could at least take something from a game which they had looked like losing.
