Leeds Carnegie return to the Guinness Premiership, where in previous years the newly promoted team has won six of the twelve previous opening weekend encounters.
Leeds themselves have lost their opening Premiership game in the past four seasons, whilst Leeds have won their last 16 games at Headingley Carnegie in all competitions.
Newcastle Falcons have begun their season with victory just once in the past four seasons: 33-12 at home to Sale in 2007. The Falcons ended last season with three successive defeats and have not won away from Kingston Park since a 32-25 victory at Sale in the Guinness Premiership on 8 March.
Leeds’ 16-15 win at Headingley the last time the teams met, in March 2008, ended a seven game winless spell against the Falcons stretching back to 2004.
