    Sale Sharks name youngest ever captain

    Sale Sharks are delighted to announce that James Gaskell will captain the side during the 2010-2011 season.
    When James leads the side out on Friday evening against Newcastle Falcons aged 20 years, 106 days, he will become the youngest-ever captain of Sale Sharks. The previous record was held by Alex Sanderson, who was captain during the 2000-1 season.

    James is a product of the Sale Sharks' Academy season, having joined the club as a youngster from Sandbach. He made his debut in October 2008 against Cardiff Blues in the EDF Energy Cup and last season was one of the best players in the Guinness Premiership until he was injured against London Wasps in February.

    In last season's Awards at Sale Sharks, he was named as the Breakthrough Player of the Year, and also the Players' Player of the Year.

    Along with team mate Carl Fearns, James impressed in the 2009 Junior IRB World Cup and made 21 appearances last season, scoring four tries.
