Will Butler set for Warriors debut

Academy youngster Will Butler will make his first-team debut on Saturday when Warriors open their European Challenge Cup campaign against Enisei-STM.

Backs Coach Sam Vesty, who is overseeing the side in Europe, has named a mix of youth and experience for the clash as Warriors look to get off to a winning start in chilly Moscow.

Josh Adams, Charlie Hewitt and Matti Williams will all make their first starts for the Club as a host of talented youngsters are given an opportunity to impress in the competition.

Elsewhere in the backline, Max Stelling and Andy Short will make their first appearances of the season.

Jamie Shillcock will line up at fly-half after impressing at full-back in recent weeks, while Luke Baldwin and Dean Hammond complete the backline.

In the forward pack Sam Betty and Huw Taylor will also experience their first taste of action this term, as will prop Ryan Bower, who will captain the side.

Christian Scotland-Williamson, Matt Cox and Mike Daniels make their first starts of the campaign to complete the starting line-up – and Sam Vesty is confident his young side can deliver.

Vesty said: “Our squad is a mix of younger and senior players and we want to be competitive in these games.

“We want to get off to a winning start and get our game on the pitch in trying conditions. We’ve got a good group and we’re looking forward to it.

“Enisei are a very good team at home and beat Newcastle and Brive last year so we know we face a tough challenge.

“We want to attack some good opposition and test young players out at a level they’re not used to.”
