Tim Visser relishing London Double Header debut with Harlequins

Harlequins’ wing Tim Visser says if he wasn’t playing in the London Double Header he would have bought a ticket to watch!

The new Aviva Premiership Rugby campaign kicks off next month with the London Double Header returning to Twickenham on 3 September.

Champions Saracens play Worcester Warriors, before Quins strut their stuff against new boys Bristol Rugby.
In last year’s showpiece, 114 points were shared among the four clubs and Visser expects the day to be another occasion to savour.

“You get some real top class teams playing at Twickenham and some of the best players in the world. So if I was a rugby fan I’d be there,” said the 29-year-old Scotland international.

“It’s a big occasion so I think it will be amazing to get out there and get into it.

“We normally walk over there with the fans and it’s amazing. The amount of support we get anyway is great, but it goes up another level when we are at Twickenham.

“It’s a big occasion with some real rivalries going on, and it’s put on at the biggest stage which keeps an enormous amount of pressure behind it.

“Being at the start of the season starts the Aviva Premiership off with a bang for us, which is great.

“We want to play in as many big games as we can, so we are all delighted to be a part of it again.”

With Andy Robinson’s Bristol Rugby the opposition, it means Visser gets an immediate chance for a reunion with the former Scotland coach.

And Visser knows his team are certainly not in for a walk in the park.

“They have just come up into the Aviva Premiership which makes it interesting. And for me, playing against my old coach is something special too,” Visser added.

“When a Championship team comes into the Premiership normally they are an unknown quantity and tend to struggle a little bit to get used to the pace at the start of the season.

“But Bristol are a different breed. They have lots of international players, they have a lot of quality – they have had a Premiership team playing in the Championship for a couple of years now.

“So no one is underestimating them and I can imagine they will probably have quite a good season.

“They’ll be fired up and ready for it coming down here.

“It will be the first time I’ve played in a London Double Header. I was involved in the Big Game last year, but apart from that I’ve only seen it from afar.

“I’m certainly looking forward to it playing against Bristol.”
