Three players re-sign with Wasps

Three players have put pen to paper to extend their stay with Wasps this week, with second row Kearnan Myall, scrum half Dan Robson and flanker Thomas Young all re-signing with the club.

Robson, who is in his second season with Wasps, has recently been named in England’s EPS squad. He has already made 31 appearances in black and gold and has scored six tries and made six assists in his last seven Premiership games for Wasps.

Speaking about the contract extension, Robson said: “It was a really easy decision to re-sign. I’m loving my time here at Wasps and appreciate the confidence Dai [Young] has shown in me. I’m really enjoying the attacking brand of rugby we play and I feel my game has improved massively since I’ve been at Wasps.”

Kearnan Myall has made 74 appearances for Wasps since joining from Sale Sharks ahead of the 2013/14 season and has recently returned from a long-term knee injury. The England Saxons lock is one of the shrewdest lineout operators in the Premiership and is also recognised for his pace and athleticism.

On signing a new contract, Myall said: “I am delighted to have signed a new deal with Wasps having really enjoyed my time here over the past four years. During that time, the club has grown from strength to strength and I’m excited to be part of what is happening at Wasps at the moment. We have some incredible players and a team of great coaches who I thoroughly enjoy working with.”

Having already represented Wales at age-group level, Thomas Young’s performances for Wasps last season also put him on the senior squad radar. The Wasps backrower was on standby for Wales’ tour of New Zealand, before injury cruelly cut short his season ahead of Wasps’ Premiership Semi Final.

A natural openside, Young has already proven his ability at the breakdown, thriving under the tutelage of George Smith, and has also shown an eye for the try line scoring six tries in 20 appearances last season. In his third season with Wasps, Young has made 39 appearances in total.

Young said: “It was an easy decision to sign an extension at Wasps. I have really enjoyed my time at the club and feel like I have developed a lot as a player. I am very excited about the direction the club is moving in and the calibre of players we have got at Wasps is a massive draw. I feel like this is the right place for me to carry on developing.”

Wasps’ Director Rugby Dai Young added: “I’m really pleased that three more players have shown their commitment to Wasps and their belief in the potential of this squad. Dan, Kearnan and Thomas are talented players who also have a very strong work ethic. They’ve made a significant impact in the squad’s progression over the past couple of seasons and the exciting thing is, they still have a lot of potential to fulfil.

“I’ve always said that retaining quality players is just as important as being able to recruit quality players and we are now in a position where we can really start to build continuity and consistency within our squad. We have a strong backbone of players who have been with the club through thick and thin and that core group is growing in experience and stature, which is good foundation to build on moving forwards.”
